The James Monroe Wire and Cable Corp. in Lancaster has been hit with a $16,176 penalty for violations of regulations governing air quality and hazardous waste.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection issued the fine after it said the business exceeded production limits outlined in its air permit, failed to keep records of emissions, and committed multiple hazardous waste violations.

“Manufacturing operations must comply with the air quality and hazardous waste regulations to protect public health and the environment,” Mary Jude Pigsley, director of MassDEP’s Central Regional Office in Worcester, said in a Tuesday press release announcing the penalty. “The James Monroe Wire and Cable Corp. will return to compliance with MassDEP’s air quality and hazardous waste regulations and will pay a penalty for its noncompliance.”

The company did not respond to a request for comment from WBJ.

Monroe Wire & Cable was established in 1977, according to the company’s website. The business operates a 100,000-square-foot plant in Lancaster that produces custom wire and cable products for a number of industries, including communications and renewable energy firms.
