State providing $100K grants for coworking spaces to adapt to coronavirus

The Workbar coworking space at Staples' store in Brighton

Coworking spaces looking to purchase new equipment or undergo building improvements intended to implement social distancing and coronavirus-related safety standards may apply for grants of up to $100,000 through the MassDevelopment’s Collaborative Workspace Program, the agency announced on Monday.

The funding opportunity marks the program’s fifth round.

“As the commonwealth continues to move through the reopening process on a path to recovery, collaborative workspaces will remain an important part of our business landscape across the state,” said Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Kennealy, in a statement.

To date, the Collaborative Workspace Program has distributed $8.4 million across 136 awards, according to the announcement.

Proposal information is available online and responses are due by 5 p.m. Aug. 10.
