State hits Charlton firm with environmental fine

The Patrick administration has levied a Charlton firm with $27,464 in fines and unpaid compliance fees for allegedly violating air quality and hazardous waste requirements as its facility expanded.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) said inspectors in January 2013 observed several hazardous waste and air quality violations during an inspection of the Karl Storz Endovision site. MassDEP said the company used improper hazardous waste container-labeling, management and storage practices.

MassDEP said the company has taken corrective action on all violations and has applied for an air-quality plan approval, as required by state regulation.

An attempt to reach Karl Storz Endovision by telephone this morning was unsuccessful.
