State Gives $1.3M Grant For Ayer Partnership

Gov. Deval Patrick recently announced a $1.3 million grant to support a partnership between Ayer tire recycler J.P. Routhier and a Canadian company.

Animat, of Sherbrooke, Quebec, manufactures rubber matting for the agricultural industry, and will use material recycled by J.P. Routhier. The new venture is expected to create more than 70 jobs, according to the governor’s office.

The grant will pay for an extension of the public sewer line, which the governor’s office said will also make it easier for other large companies to locate in Ayer.

Ayer Planning Director Christopher Ryan said Animat will purchase or lease a warehouse at 93 Fitchburg Road.
