Gov. Deval Patrick announced more than $35 million in state and federal grants to local communities for infrastructure projects and building new parks, including several projects in Central Massachusetts.
As part of the Community Development Block Grant program, the state released $33.6 million to 68 municipalities around the state. Patrick made the announcement in Milford, which received $934,291 for street and sidewalk upgrades in the Prospect Heights neighborhood where a housing development is being built. In a separate announcement earlier in the week, the state also released $6 million to five communities as part of the Gateway City Parks program. Fitchburg received $1.1 million to construct a new park in the city's River Street area, which is a priority-development site surrounded by mostly vacant mills.
