The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission is closing its offices inside Worcester's Union Station indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The office, with more than 60 workers, moved into Union Station last November. Starting Monday they'll be working remotely for the time being.
The commission said Friday it is also asking marijuana shops to consider and publicize protocols to reduce the risk of exposure, including managing customer lines, mobile or order-ahead features, appointment-only operations, and increased frequency of cleaning and sterilization efforts. Shops selling medicinal marijuana may consider promoting and expanding delivery services, the office said.
The agency said it continues to evaluate protocols with respect to inspections and other business, including public meetings. Investigators and compliance officers will continue to work in the field wearing mandated personal protective equipment.
The Cannabis Control Commission is the latest state office to take strong measures in response to the outbreak.
Gov. Charlie Baker, as part of his state of emergency declaration Tuesday, discontinuing all out-of-state work-related travel for executive branch employees, canceling or virtually holding conferences, informing employees not to attend external work-related events, reminding employees feeling sick with fever or flu symptoms to not come into work, and encouraging high-risk employees to talk with their supervisors to review possible alternative work assignments.
State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg said Friday departments and agencies within the Treasury will begin to have limited staff members March 16 through March 30, with employees working remotely. The Treasury office includes the Massachusetts Unclaimed Property Division, Veterans Bonus Division, Retirement Board and Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.
