The state has awarded $6 million to eight communities – including two in Central Massachusetts – that will help protect 8,000 acres as open space as part of the Landscape Partnership Program.
A $589,000 grant for Winchendon Springs will protect 590 acres of open space.
In Spencer, Sibley Farms and Spencer State Forest have received $1.9 million to protect 723 acres of space.
The $6 million investment from the state will leverage an additional $15 million in non-state support for the open space causes.
In the last four years, the state has preserved 88,000 acres of land as open space.
