Minuteman Health, the state’s only member-governed health insurance plan, received its license to operate from the Massachusetts Division of Insurance (DOI) and had its premium rates approved so it can sell plans in 2014.
A joint venture between Vanguard Health Systems (soon to be acquired by Tenet Health Care of Texas), owner of Worcester’s Saint Vincent Hospital, the New England Quality Care Alliance and Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Minuteman is designed to provide small businesses and individuals with lower-cost health insurance. It will be governed by a board of directors elected by plan members.
Open enrollment for Minuteman begins Oct. 1. Plans will be marketed through its website, www.minutemanhealth.org, brokers, and the Massachusetts Health Connector, according Minuteman.
To date, Minuteman has a provider network of more than 3,000, including Saint Vincent Hospital, MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick, and physicians affiliated with the Central Mass Independent Physician Association and the MetroWest Accountable Care Organization.
