State: 51.5 MW Of Solar Installed In Mass.

Massachusetts has 51.5 megawatts of solar power installed within its borders, about one-fifth of the way toward Gov. Deval Patrick’s goal of 250 megawatts of solar installed by 2017.

When Patrick announced the initiative in 2007, there were 3.5 megawatts of solar installed and 30 companies in the trade. The state announced today that there are now more than 200 companies.

The 51.5 megawatts of power is enough to supply about 8,145 homes with year-round power, according to a press release from the state.
