Staples has pulled from its Canadian talent in naming the new president of North American Retail for the Framingham-based office supply company.
Steve Matyas, who has been with the company since 2000 and most recently served as president of Staples Canada, will be the new president of North American Retail. He first joined Business Depot in Canada in 1991 as its first employee.
Matyas has a proven track record of profitable growth, according to interim Staples CEO Shira Goodman, who was the previous president of North America Operations. Goodman said that realigning the company’s retail leadership will help strengthen Staples' efforts to right-size its store network.
Matyas' appointment is part of an ongoing shift for the company, during which former CEO Ron Sargent stepped down in June after 27 years of leading the company. That decision came after the failed merger with Office Depot.
