Framingham-based Staples has been facing off against the Federal Trade Commission in court this week as it continues to pursue an acquisition of rival Office Depot.
The companies issued an open letter Friday reaffirming their commitment to the fight.
“Our commitment to this merger has not changed,” the letter read. “The FTC is simply wrong. The combination of Staples and Office Depot is good for customers.”
The trade commission announced in December it would move to block the planned merger, saying that it would reduce competition within the market and lead to higher prices.
In the letter, the two companies cited the disruptive nature of the digital economy that has brought the two companies together. The companies pointed to the approval of the acquisition in Australia, New Zealand, China and the European Union.
Staples maintains that the merger would benefit customers as well as employees and shareholders.
