Staples Gets Recycling Award

Framingham-based office supply giant Staples Inc. has received an award from the National Recycling Coalition recognizing it as a model for the industry.

NRC said Staples won its 11th annual Recycling Works Award for efforts to promote recycling and waste reduction. The company helps customers recycle office products including ink cartridges and old printers, and offers products with recycled content.

The company collected nearly 5 million pounds of technology waste for recycling last year, and it is on track to recycle 50 million ink cartridges in 2009.

Previous winners of the award include The Coca-Cola Co., Dell Inc., Waste Management Recycle America and McDonald's Corp.
