Framingham-based Staples Inc. is being honored as one of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2011 Energy Star Partners of the Year for its efforts in energy efficiency and renewable power.
Staples said it has increased its use of renewable power to account for 53 percent of its U.S. electricity consumption.
Staples and other companies will receive the award at an April 12 ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Other companies being honored include Kohl’s Department Stores, Samsung Electronics Co. and Citi.
The company said more than 140 of its facilities have received Energy Star certification. It aims to win the certification for 500 facilities by the end of 2012.
