The Kroger Co., a retail grocery chain headquartered in Cincinnati, announced that Staples executive Ron Sargent has joined the company’s board of directors.
Sargent is chairman and CEO of the Framingham-based company, and has been with Staples since 1989. Previously, he spent 10 years with Kroger in a variety of positions. Sarget is also a director with Aramark Corp., Mattel Inc., and the Yankee Candle Company.
Current plans call for Sargent to serve until Kroger’s annual meeting of shareholders in June of 2007. At that meeting, he will run for election by the shareholders. If elected, Kroger’s board will have 15 members.
