Staples appoints new chief marketing officer

Staples has appointed a new chief marketing officer who will be in charge of promoting the Framingham office supply chain’s turn toward its delivery business.

Michelle Bottomley, the new executive, has held the same role at human resources consulting firm Mercer and Barclaycard, the credit card arm of the British bank Barclays. She replaces Frank Bifulco, who is retiring this year after launching Staples’ “It’s Pro Time” marketing campaign, which was unveiled earlier this month.

The new campaign, which is only the fourth such marketing effort by Staples, moves the company toward business-to-business sales and delivery, which the company said now comprises a majority of its sales.

Bottomley will report to Staples’ Chief Executive Officer and President Shira Goodman.
