An executive search firm with a recently opened Worcester office has begun working with the growing cannabis industry as marijuana firms have begun building their executive teams in Massachusetts.
Standish Executive Search, with offices in Providence, New Hampshire and -- as of July -- Worcester, is marketing its new niche field to small and midsized cannabis firms.
In a statement, principal Stanley Davis, said talented executives exist in other similar fields, like pharmaceutical and aerospace industries because of the highly-regulated yet fast-moving environments of those companies.
“To be successful, these leaders will be disciplined, patiently aggressive, agile and creative, yet ethical and compliant,” Davis said. “Regardless of their industry experience, they will have the resolve and strength of character to handle regulation, extreme cultural and legal scrutiny, as well as the operational and strategic demands.”
Since recreational marijuana retailers opened in November, $239 million worth of cannabis products have been sold in Massachusetts at the 22 retailers authorized to begin sales. According to the state Cannabis Control Commission, 164 other retailer applications have been submitted.
According to the Marijuana Business Factbook, 2019 sales are expected to eclipse $12 billion in the U.S. this year.
