Saint Vincent Hospital announced it will be adding 17 psychiatric beds to two locations next year.
The hospital will be adding 13 adult acute psychiatric beds to its main Worcester campus in April, relocating the unit from the Vernon Hill psychiatric campus which is no longer owned by St. V’s. The space that will be utilized by the new beds was originally intended for a 10-bed gero-psychiatry unit as inpatient psychiatry services were to be moved to Athol Memorial Hospital in April. However, according to St. V’s, “timing and unanticipated constraints made the original plan with Athol Memorial Hospital unfeasible.”
In addition to the beds at its main campus, the hospital is adding four inpatient psychiatric beds to its sister hospital, Metro West Medical Center in Natick.
“We are thrilled that we can continue to provide psychiatric services to the most vulnerable in our community. The addition of adult psychiatric beds at Saint Vincent Hospital allows us to continue to build upon the rich tradition we have already established while continuing to meet community needs,” said Erik G. Wexler, president and CEO of the hospital and president of the New England market for Vanguard Health Systems.
