Officials at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center say an anonymous donor has pledged $6 million, the largest private gift in the hospital’s 110-year history.
The money is specifically earmarked to support the orthopedic program at the hospital. The president of the St. Francis Hospital foundation says the money will become available upon the death of the donor.
Paul Pendergast says that in addition to the gift, the donor has promised cash donations of about $50,000 a year for the next several years.
Pendergast describes the donor as a person who is near retirement age and who has had a long relationship with the 617-bed Catholic hospital in Hartford.
