Worcester-based Spectrum Health Systems is now accepting Vermont Medicaid at its North Adams outpatient treatment center.
The facility, which provides medication-assisted treatment and group therapy to treat addiction can now accept clients with Vermont’s signature insurance plan from over the state line, Spectrum said in a press release Thursday.
Vermont Medicaid covers medical care for seniors 65 and older, children, disabled people, pregnant women and low-income residents.
The North Adams location is just six miles from the Vermont border and about a 13-minute drive, according to Google Maps.
In a statement, Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine said the state has been working with providers and state leaders to fill the gap in that part of the state.
“Spectrum’s commitment helps to ensure that the people of Bennington County who want and need this highly effective form of treatment will be able to get it close to home,” he said.
President and CEO Kurt Isaacson in the press release said the opioid crisis is driving the company to expand its offerings to include various insurance plans.
“We look forward to working with Vermont Medicaid to provide much-needed treatment to its beneficiaries,” he said.
