Worcester-based Spectrum Health Systems, which provides substance abuse and mental health treatment, is expanding its footprint with 14 units of affordable, drug-free housing.
According to the Registry of Deeds, Spectrum purchased 4-6 Marston Way on Monday for $525,000.
Spectrum spokesman Andrew Strecker said the housing will have a live-in manager and is for people who have barriers to getting other types of housing such as the inability to afford first and last month’s rent or lack of a favorable credit rating.
“Many are completing long-term inpatient residential treatment and looking for their own housing in a safe, drug-free environment,” he said.
Strecker said the 5,760-square-foot building is across the street from Spectrum’s othe drug-free housing at 7 Marston Way and is ideal because public transportation, employment centers and treatment facilities are all easily accessible.
“This housing provides a safe, stable and dignified environment for people in recovery from addiction,” said Spectrum President and CEO Charles Faris.
Although Spectrum is a nonprofit organization, Strecker said property taxes at the site will continue to be paid.
