Worcester addiction treatment nonprofit Spectrum Health Systems has tapped two new board members to serve on its board of trustees.
Cheryl Gallant, of Coghlin Companies Inc. in Worcester, and Michael Procopio, a Saugus construction and real estate developer, will provide strategic counsel and direction for Spectrum’s various inpatient and outpatient services, according to a statement issued last week.
Gallant has 27 years of experience in human resources, which she will use to help guide recruitment efforts for the company. Before joining the board, Gallant was familiar with Spectrum through her husband’s work at the Worcester County Jail, where Spectrum treats inmates who suffer from addiction. She’s familiar with Spectrum’s community-based programs and the positive results these programs have provided to her coworker’s son.
Procopio is passionate about addiction recovery, particularly in the military and veteran communities. He founded the Cpl. Scott J. Procopio Foundation, a foundation providing scholarships to deserving area students and assisting in veteran addiction and homelessness causes throughout Eastern Massachusetts, in honor of his late brother, who struggled with addiction before recovering and joining the Marines. Cpl. Procopio was killed in action in Iraq in 2006.
