Worcester nonprofit Spectrum Health Systems, a mental health and addiction treatment provider, has issued $137,000 in grants to organizations supporting those in recovery, seven of which are located in Worcester, and all but four of which are in Central Massachusetts.
Spectrum’s Community Impact Committee, established in 2022, selected the thirteen total Massachusetts organizations. The grants are aimed at providing relief to the communities where the provider is based, according to a Tuesday press release from Spectrum.
The committee intends to donate an additional $163,000 in 2023 for a total of $300,000 for the year.
In Worcester, selected organizations are 508 Forever Young, Jeremiah’s Inn, Open Sky Community Services, The Village, Dismas House, Net of Compassion, and Mustard Seed Catholic Worker Community. Also selected in Central Massachusetts were Gardner-based Chair City Diner and First Church Sterling.
“Recovery is a community effort, and these admirable organizations play an impactful role in that journey. I’ve seen firsthand how impactful such organizations are in helping clients stay the course, and I’m grateful for the opportunity from Spectrum to help identify and support local organizations working to improve our community’s health,” said Dr. Jeroan Allison, professor at UMass Chan Medical School and chair of Spectrum’s Community Impact Committee in the press release.
The other four organizations across Massachusetts chosen to receive the first round of grant funding were Louison House in North Adams, Berkshire Dream Center in Pittsfield, Old South Union Church in Weymouth, and The Movement Family in Lawrence.
