Spectrum Health Systems is working with Tufts Health Plan and a Boston health technology company to provide new ways for people to kick addiction.

Pear Therapeutics' products are aimed at connecting patients to evidence-based treatment through their mobile devices to complement their addiction therapy, gives prescribers and providers access to clinician resources, and allows insurers to process claims. The firm's so-called digital therapeutics, which are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, are central to Worcester-based Spectrum and Tufts' joint effort to address substance use disorder.

Tufts and Spectrum are working together to use technology to help with traditional addiction treatment using Pear's digital therapeutics offerings, which are known as PDTs, or prescription digital therapeutics.

Spectrum, which has inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment centers across Massachusetts, said in a statement announcing the partnership that working with Pear and Watertown-based Tufts will bring much-needed resources to addressing substance abuse disorders.
