Spectrum health has treated 40 in detox unit for patients with COVID-19

Spectrum Health Systems, a Worcester addiction treatment nonprofit, has treated 40 people in an isolated unit that provides medically supervised detoxification and clinical stabilization services for clients who have tested positive for COVID-19, at its Westborough campus.

“Addiction doesn’t stop for a pandemic and our team knew that we needed to enact an emergency response plan to provide the essential services our clients need,” Kristin Nolan, senior vice president of behavioral services at Spectrum Health Systems, said in a release.

The unit opened in March and has since treated 40 patients, according to a release from the company. The patients are still provided with services such as individual and group therapy through the use of telemedicine and medication-assisted treatment despite their quarantine.

Spectrum is currently accepting patients at the COVID-19 unit.
