Southborough Firm Wins $1.5M Army Contract

Protonex Technology Corp., a Southborough-based fuel cell developer, has received a $1.5 million U.S. Army contract to develop power systems that run on a variety of fuels.

The two-year contract asks the company to adapt its solid oxide fuel cells to run on alternative fuels such as butanol and biodiesel, as well as gasoline and kerosene. At the end of the contract and after demonstrating the systems, the Army will take delivery of two of the systems for further testing.

The Protonex system provides the military with lightweight, quiet and efficient systems that can power equipment during field operations.
