Two solar power installation projects that will provide power to about 400 Sterling homes each year have been completed, according to the installing companies.
The Sterling Municipal Light Department, the town's public utility company, has signed a 20-year agreement with the owners of the 1-megawatt, ground-mounted solar power systems, Canadian Solar Inc. said Monday. The California company co-owns the systems with Duke Energy Renewables and Integrys Energy Services.
The developer, Pennsylvania-based Community Energy, worked with the Town of Sterling and the landowner, Davis Dairy Farmland, to design projects suitable to the agricultural and residential setting, according to Canadian Solar. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for the summer.
"These projects stand to have a significant impact on the Town of Sterling, highlighting how a solar installation can support a community by providing benefits on multiple levels, in addition to generating long-term clean energy," said Canadian Solar CEO Shawn Qu.
