French company Dassault Systèmes, along with DS SolidWorks Corp., its Concord-based subsidiary, is looking for space to consolidate three of its Massachusetts offices, including those in Concord, Maynard and Lowell.
Dassault Systèmes, maker of engineering software, has hired Jones Lang LaSalle to search for possible new locations.
Company officials have not ruled out the possibility of having the combined office in Concord, or finding a whole new location.
David Stott, CFO for SolidWorks, said the company’s lease for its more than 400-person office space on Baker Avenue in Concord is up in 2012.
The company is looking to combine office space with a small 20-person office in Maynard, as well as the Dassault offices in Lowell, which house about 200 workers.
“This is really a move to leverage the intellectual property of the whole group,” Stott said. “When people are working together, they find more ways to leverage common resources, and you can get efficiencies that way.”
In total, the company has about 300,000 square feet of space it is looking to consolidate.
Company officials are still very early in the process of considering the consolidation, but Stott said the move is not part of an effort to reduce the number of employees.
Some important factors that will be considered when determining where to locate the new joint office will be corporate visibility and the services that are available at the location, he said.
That includes services for employees, as well as business clients and visitors that would be coming to the offices.
The company will also take into account the employee base and what impact a move would have on them.
Stott did not rule out expanding the company’s footprint in Concord, moving to another area of the state, or even moving out of the state.
“Everything’s on the table,” he said.
JLL is examining similar real estate moves for Dassault’s other offices across North and South America. Dassault is one of the leading international companies in CAD, or computer aided design software, which are programs designers and engineers use to create new products.
Stott said Dassault mainly specializes in mainstream product sales to large-cap companies whereas DS Solidworks specializes in products for smaller and medium-sized businesses.
Both companies also offer a range of support products, including product lifecycle management software and data support software.
