Softscape Inc. of Wayland is denouncing a lawsuit filed against the software company by California-based competitor SuccessFactors Inc. as “frivolous.”
SuccessFactors accused Softscape of false advertising, trademark infringement and other charges after a PowerPoint presentation criticizing the California company was anonymously circulated by email. Softscape argues that it created the presentation for internal use and does not know how it was released to the public.
A temporary restraining order issued yesterday by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has both sides claiming a victory. The order prohibits Softscape from using SuccessFactor trademarks or secret information, improperly accessing the company’s computer systems or making statements purported to be made by anyone other than Softscape or its agents. But Softscape says it succeeded in having the court narrowly limit the restraining order.
