A special ski train has kicked off service to Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, bringing riders to the slopes from Boston for a round-trip fare of $23.
The return of the specially equipped trains, that began running on Dec. 10, coincide with a recent coating of snow that has the mountain currently operating 11 trails with four lifts. The trains are equipped with ski and snowboard racks and children under the age of 12 ride free. The round-trip ticket from North Station include a free shuttle from the recently opened Wachusett Station in Fitchburg to the ski mountain.
Ski mountain officials unveiled a $2-million snowmaking expansion this year that company officials say will improve snowmaking efficiency.
Schedules for the train are available online at the MBTA’s website.
