Simsbury man admits stealing nearly $2 million from employer

Federal authorities say a Simsbury man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a scheme to embezzle nearly 2 million dollars from his employer.

Jeffrey M. Bourke pleaded guilty in federal court in Hartford to four counts of mail fraud and one count of filing a false tax return.

Authorities say in September 2003, Bourke formed a sham company called Health Management Solutions that he used to embezzle money from his employer, a major health insurer.

The 32-year-old created fictitious invoices that falsely represented goods and services provided to his employer by Health Management Solutions.

Bourke used the money to buy and renovate a home and for expensive watches, artwork and vacations.
