Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, which has a facility in Worcester, has won a deal that will supply a new wire rod mill to a Chinese-based carbon product producer, Siemens announced today.
The contract will allow the buyer, Hanzhong Iron & Steel Group Co., to expand its manufacturing capacity.
Many of Hanzhong’s production lines were damaged by an earthquake in May 2008, according to a statement from Siemens. Several local steel mills merged with Hanzhong in 2009 to consolidate the local province’s steelmaking production for the local market, Siemens said.
Earlier this month, Siemens landed a contract to supply another Chinese steel maker with a new rod outlet.
