Siemens To Modernize French Mill

Siemens Metals Technologies, which has a facility in Worcester, said it has won a contract to modernize a French copper rod mill owned by global cable manufacturer Nexans.

The mill's 35-year-old rod rolling line in Lens, France, will receive a new, automated crop shearing system designed to maximize yield and improve operator safety by reducing the need for human intervention, according to Siemens. The project will include a near gear box, motor and shear to be installed by Siemens, as well as a mechatronic package of controls that will integrate the new equipment into the mill's main control system, Siemens said.

The project will begin later this year, Siemens said. When the work is complete, the Nexans mill will be able to process up to 30 tons per hour, with a capacity of 200,000 tons a year.
