Estes Express Lines, a freight shipping company in Shrewsbury, has sold its Route 20 site for $5 million.
Black Branch Terminals of Richmond, Va., bought the seven-acre site at 533 Hartford Turnpike in a deal that closed Dec. 17.
Estes calls itself the largest privately owned freight shipping company in North America, with a fleet of more than 7,000 tractors and 30,000 trailers. Its network of more than 260 terminals includes six in Massachusetts.
Estes' on-site management didn't return a call seeking comment.
Estes bought the site in 2009 for $2.8 million, according to town records. The site, which includes a 24,000-square-foot building, was last assessed by the Town of Shrewsbury at just over $2 million.
