Shrewsbury ski park first in North America to open for 2023-24 season

Ski Ward, a small skiing, snowboarding and tubing facility in Shrewsbury, has surprised the skiing world by becoming the first slope in North America to open for the 2023-24 season, according to winter sports publication POWDER Magazine.
Ski Ward’s slope officially opened on Sunday, after new snowmaking equipment gave the company the ability to produce artificial snow despite high temperatures.
The opening of the first ski resort of the season is usually a competition between several Colorado-based ski resorts, according to POWDER, but warm and dry weather in the region prevented any resorts there from being the first to open this season.
Ski Ward first opened for business in 1939. It is one of the few remaining small ski resorts remaining in Massachusetts, featuring nine trails, four lifts, and eight tubing lanes, according to the company’s website.
In addition to winter sports, Ski Ward also offers space for group outings and corporate events during the summer.
