SpectraLights of Shrewsbury has installed high efficiency light bulbs at Worcester city hall.
SpectraLights installed four recessed solid state LED fixtures at the basement entrance to Worcester city hall at the invitation of City Manager Michael O'Brien and City Energy Efficiency and Conservation Manager John Odell.
The fixtures produce more light than 100-watt bulbs but use only 18 watts of electricity, according to SpectraLights CTO Blair Hopper. Hopper said he designed the lights to reduce energy consumption by more than 80 percent while providing full-spectrum light and lasting as many as 30 years in commercial or industrial buildings.
The lights are dimmable and recyclable and Hopper said the company will soon be manufacturing the lights and their components entirely in the United States.
Hopper is also the inventor of the Freestyle System, a device that suspends professional hairdryers from salon ceilings and makes them feel virtually weightless in the hands of hairdressers. The former contractor started SpectraLight to develop light fixtures that would allow salons to make more realistic hair color assessments.
