The British Swim School, a Virginia-based franchiser of swimming and water survival skill schools, has expanded its presence into south Central Massachusetts, as a new franchise will offer lessons from a Milford location.
The franchise, operated by married couple Logi Vaidyanathan and Jobita Alukka of Shrewsbury, will operate from the pool at the DoubleTree Hilton-Milford at 11 Beaver St.
Vaidyanathan and Alukka are working with their children to get the franchise off the ground, according to a press release issued by BSS on Tuesday. Their daughter, Anusha, will serve as the aquatics manager and assist with marketing, while their son, Arun, will fill the role of operations manager.
“This checked all the boxes for us,” Logi Vaidyanathan said of BSS in the press release. “There’s a community element that’s big. It’s solving a big problem, which is a lack of proper swim safety education, while also allowing me to involve my whole family in this enterprise. It’s very fulfilling for me to teach my kids what’s involved with getting a business off the ground and running.”
Founded in 1981, BSS operates more than 350 schools across Canada and the United States. The business began operating under a franchise model in 2011, according to its website. Despite the name, the company is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and does not operate in the United Kingdom.
A typical BSS franchise costs between $108,850 and $145,200 to open, according to the company, utilizing a business model that uses under-utilized pools at locations including hotels, fitness centers, and retirement communities.
The business’ other Central Massachusetts franchises are located in Paxton, Sudbury, Wayland, Westborough, and Worcester.
Lessons in Milford will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
