An architecture and design firm that was on the city’s shortlist for the $100 million ballpark project for the future home of the Pawtucket Red Sox will get some work on the facility after all.
The Worcester Redevelopment Authority on Friday amended a design services agreement with its chosen architect, D’Agostino, Isso & Quirk Architects (DAIQ), to allow the firm Sasaki to come on board.
Sasaki, along with DAIQ, was one of three architecture firms shortlisted for the project in November.
According to Chief Development Officer Michael Traynor, the firm, with a Boston-area office, will bring its expertise in urban and landscape design.
With private developer Madison Downtown Holdings proposing apartments, retail space, restaurants and hotels as part of an overall $240 million project, Sasaki Associates will ensure that each aspect of the development fits nicely into the bigger picture.
In Traynor’s words, the firm will ensure that the development doesn’t “look like we have different projects plopped down independently.”
Sasaki boasts a vast portfolio of projects around the world, including stadiums, urban developments, college campuses and other projects.
The firm was recently selected as the lead architect for a new 600,000-square-foot building in the booming development area of Boston’s Seaport District.
The firm will join DAIQ, which was selected as the frontrunner to lead the ballpark design, helped design a $280 million capital improvement at Fenway Park, among other Major League Baseball Stadiums.
