Shopping plaza proposed at WRTA site

Auburn-based Galaxy Development has asked Worcester’s planning board for approval to build a 66,000-square-foot shopping plaza at the site of the Worcester Regional Transit Authority facility on Grove Street.

The proposal seeks to demolish the existing structure on the site and construct four new retail buildings and enough parking for 317 vehicles. According to land records, the development firm purchased the property for $3.8 million in March 2016 after winning a bid from the WRTA to develop the property.

The development will include restaurants — including a drive-thru — personal services, retail and medical uses, according to the project application submitted to the city.

Two of the proposed buildings are to be one-story and just over 10,000 square feet. Another one-story building shown in a property flyer is proposed to be 5,100 square feet while another is shown to be two stories of more than 40,000-square feet consisting of retail and office space.

Galaxy Development provided no further comment on the project, including possible tenants.
