Phoenix Park, a business park in a 19th Century mill in Shirley, says the solar power system it will begin installing this month could cut the development's electricity consumption by 50 percent.
The park has hired Boston-based Alteris Renewables to install a $3 million, 506-kilowatt solar electricity system. The installation is expected to be complete by spring, and will include 2,530, 200-watt Evergreen Solar panels and Solectria Renewables photovoltaic inverters.
Evergreen, which is based in Marlborough, and Solectria, of Lawrence, were chosen specifically to bolster the state's green energy industry, according to Eric Shapiro, the park's managing partner.
Alteris is set to begin the installation later this month and the project is expected to be complete by the spring of 2010.
The project was funded through equity and state and federal programs, as well as a $500,000 loan from the Digital Federal Credit Union of Marlborough.
