Shine Initiative, a Worcester youth mental health nonprofit, has named its director of development to be its interim executive director position following the resignation of current executive director Fred Kaelin.

Charisse Murphy will become interim executive director on Nov. 24, which is Kaelin’s last day. Kaelin has been executive director for five years and is leaving to take over leadership at The Jordan Porco Foundation in Hartford, according to a Thursday press release from the Shine Initiative.
Murphy has been appointed to hold the role by the board of directors of the nonprofit. She has been with the organization since 2020 and is the founder of emPOWER ME!, a girls empowerment program.
“Charisse’s experience in fund development, program design, and leadership across several area nonprofits will ensure a smooth transition,” board chair Jim Notaro said in the press release.
The board of directors is not launching a search for a non-interim replacement and will evaluate Murphy as a potential permanent replacement into the new year.
