Settlement In Fitchburg Discrimination

The Fitchburg Housing Authority must set up a $65,000 settlement fund to compensate people it may have discriminated against under an agreement with the U.S. Justice Department.

The agreement settles a Justice Department lawsuit against the housing authority and its executive director, Robert W. Hill, that claimed the authority denied tenants with certain disabilities the opportunity to move between public housing apartments. The alleged conduct violates the federal Fair Housing Act.

The settlement must still be approved by the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
