The Senate gave initial approval Thursday to legislation aimed at providing privacy to people on a multi-person health care plan, such as children and young adults on their parents’ plan.
Senate Ways and Means Chairwoman Karen Spilka said some insurers already take steps to ensure only the patient receives notice of specific benefits provided. Spilka said some billing and claims communications violate confidentiality. Her bill (S 2138) seeks to expand privacy protections in health care.
The Senate did not send the bill to the House before breaking for the day Thursday.
Senate President Stanley Rosenberg said Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr “had a couple of questions that still needed to be perfected.”
“He needed a little bit more time,” Rosenberg said.
