A medical marijuana company with dispensaries in five states has found a new home in Worcester County with a Wednesday opening of a dispensary in Oxford.
The 425 Main St. location is the company’s second dispensary in Massachusetts after a Hanover location opened last fall.
In a statement, Curaleaf President Patrik Johnson said many Oxford-area patients had to drive “significant distances” to access their herbal medicine.
“Curaleaf’s Oxford dispensary will make medical cannabis more accessible and provide patients with the most reliable and high-quality product on the market,” he said.
The company is planning to host monthly educational events, open to the local community, to discuss the medical benefits of marijuana and cooking with cannabis.
According to the state Department of Public Health, Curaleaf is just the second company to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Worcester County.
Cultivate Holdings opened a dispensary in Leicester at 1764 Main St. last fall.
Through a spokesperson, Curaleaf said its focus is to provide medical-grade cannabis products to patients, but will be pursuing the recreational market as well.
