Specialty paper and packaging manufacturer Seaman Paper in Gardner has launched a new paper alternative to single-use plastic poly bags, under the new brand name Vela, the company announced on Tuesday.
All Vela bags are recyclable and transparent, and may be used for things like protecting apparel during shipping and handling, according to a press release from the company.
“Sustainability is ingrained in Seaman Paper’s culture, and the Vela brand is the latest step in our mission to provide alternatives to – and eventually eliminate – single-use plastics,” said Seaman Paper CEO Ken Winterhalter, in a statement.
Vela bags are designed to be weather resistant, protecting their contents from humidity, moisture and dust.
So far, apparel manufacturers Faherty, Outerknown and Mara Hoffman have committed to using them, according to Seaman.
“Vela bags provide a practical, high-quality solution for the apparel and other industries that allows brands and others to promote sustainability without sacrificing efficiency,” Winterhalter said.
