A federal appellate court ruled last week that SeaChange International sufficiently modified its video system to avoid infringing on an Arris Group, Inc. patent, the Acton-based video software manufacturer said.
The decision upheld a 2012 lower-court ruling in favor of SeaChange, and is expected to conclude 12 years of legal wrangling.
“We are pleased that…the two companies can go back to competing in their respective markets on the strength of their technology and service, instead of in the courts,” SeaChange CEO Raghu Rau said.
n-Cube Corporation – later acquired by Arris -- won a 2001 suit alleging a SeaChange video system infringed on an n-Cube patent. The current suit dates to 2009, when Arris alleged that SeaChange’s modified 2002 system still violated the terms of the earlier ruling.
