SeaChange makes top 50 list

Acton software company SeaChange International has been named a top 50 most influential company in streaming media.

SeaChange made the list by the industry publication Streaming Media, which also included Apple, Google, IBM, Verizon and other industry giants. Companies that made the list, which was chosen by a Streaming Media panel, will be profiled in the magazine's October issue, which will include a byline by SeaChange CEO Ed Terino on cloud-based video platforms.

Among others on the list are Boston-based Brightcove and Vbrick Systems of Woburn.

The industry honor for SeaChange comes as the company looks to make a comeback on the back of the increasing use of streaming video services.

Income for the 25-year-old company has fallen by more than half since a high nearly a decade ago to just around $80 million. Yet SeaChange, having closed several offices and reduced its Acton headcount, returned to profitability last year and with a new logo and new products.

SeaChange leaders expect to gain industry share back with help of the popularity of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.

"From a market dynamic point of view, video consumption is growing globally at tremendous rates," Terino said in an interview this summer.
