SeaChange Buys Oregon Firm

Acton-based SeaChange International has acquired an Oregon firm that specializes in designing and writing software for digital TVs and set-top boxes.

SeaChange, which makes multi-screen video software, announced the purchase of Flashlight Engineering and Consulting LLC, of Portland, Ore., today. It will become a business unit of SeaChange and will remain based in Portland. The company has 20 employees.

The purchase, which includes Flashlight’s intellectual property, “is an example of the research and development investments we are making to accelerate the delivery of our next-generation software solutions and develop new revenue streams,” SeaChange CFO Mike Bornak said.

Earlier this month, SeaChange reported a first-quarter loss of $19.6 million on $36.6 million in revenue for its first fiscal year quarter, which ended April 30.
