Framingham-based discount retailer The TJX Cos. Inc. said its sales for August topped last year by 6 percent.
The company said it brought in $1.6 billion during the month compared to $1.5 billion a year ago and same-store sales increased by 5 percent over the same period.
The same-store results were better than the company anticipated. It said customer traffic counts have been “extremely high,” especially around back-to-school shopping.
For the 30-week period ended Aug. 29, the company reported sales of $10.7 billion, a 3 percent increase over the prior year.
TJX operates T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and other discount retailers.
