A subsidiary of Spencer-based adhesive coating manufacturer FLEXcon has moved its polymer aerogel production to its parent company’s headquarters.
Blueshift, formerly based in San Antonio, Texas, will take over 50,000 square feet of manufacturing space primarily for its AeroZero polyimide aerogel film in a clean room. The move also gives Blueshift access to development in a clean room environment.
The company plans to create additional wet lab space within the next year.
Blueshift, which became part of FLEXcon in 2014, said the move is due to increasing customer demand and the need for start-of-the-art manufacturing processes FLEXcon can provide in Spencer.
In a statement, FLEXcon CEO Neil McDonough said Blueshift will bring with it new jobs and revenue into the area.
“It’s a win-win for customers and for the Central Massachusetts community,” McDonough said.
The company did not detail how many new jobs will be added and a representative couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.
According to WBJ research, FLEXcon employs 573 workers locally.
