Acton-based Carbon Design Systems Inc., which builds virtual prototypes for architects and engineers, announced that it's received $4 million in investment funding from Samsung Venture Investment Corp. The companies have also entered into a strategic partnership.
Carbon said the money will be used to support its ongoing development of electronic system level (ESL) tools that include virtual prototypes and to expand their reach.
"Carbon's technology helps Samsung's development of leading-edge consumer devices," said Jung Ho Kim, an investment manager at Samsung Venture Investment Corp. "The strategic partnership will offer Samsung a way to more broadly expand and fast track adoption of ESL tools."
Carbon's president and CEO, Rick Lucier, added that "(Samsung's) deep technical knowledge of system-level design will be beneficial to us as we market key technologies to expand the reach of fast virtual prototypes that do not compromise accuracy."
